English for Foreign Students

Course Overview

 

 

Introduction

 

Teaching English to Foreign students requires a methodical and systematic approach. At BCS, we provide students with the necessary tools to build an overall understanding of the English Language, appreciate it and be comfortable using it.

 The main areas of focus are, Foundation Grammar, Oral & Written Communication and Comprehension. BCS provides a platform for students to participate in group discussions, interact with other students, attend classroom lessons, and enjoy the process of learning a language that is fast becoming the global language of communication.

 

Course Details

 

The syllabus and medium of instruction are based on International Receptive English; globally used and understood, in particular in the major speaking countries of Britain, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

 

BCS team of qualified, dedicated, friendly and experienced teachers will also thoroughly prepare students to take the International English Language proficiency test and examinations organized by LCCI, University of Cambridge, TOEFL and CELPT by Ngee An  Polytechnics.

 

In each level, students will be expected to achieve the following skills:

 

·        Grammar                                                        

·        Vocabulary

·        Composition / Writing Skills

·        Comprehension

·        Oral Skills ( Reading and Speaking )

 

 

The course consist of 3 levels:

   

Elementary level

 

This level is suitable for students with little or no knowledge of the English language. It focuses on enabling students to meet their basic communication needs in English, together with building their foundation in grammar and vocabulary.

 

 

Intermediate level

 

This level caters for students with basic foundation in English. The objective of this level is to further develop their skills of communication in speaking, writing, reading and listening.

 

 

Advance level

 

This level is for students who have the fundamentals of communicating well, but would require further instruction to improve their overall fluency and competency in making good use of the English language for speaking, writing, reading and listening.

 

 

Entry Requirement

 

This course is suitable for those with little or no knowledge of the English language.

Students are required to take a placement test conducted by Bedok Commercial School before they are enrolled into the respective level of the English language course.

 

 

Duration

 

For each level, each instructional session lasts for 3 hours and consists of 5 sessions per week. There would be a total of  240 contact hours conducted over 4 months.
